Pennies for Pain Walk To End Pain

The sun shone brightly and the temperature was perfect for CPC’s second Pennies for Pain Walk for Pain on September 26, 2010. Five teams of over 40 walker/runners participated in the marathon, half marathon and 5K events of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. Team Captains from Sickkids Pain Team, Purdue Pharma, Pfizer Canada, Thornley Fallis Communications and CPC Pennies for Pain have told us that many of their teammates had personal bests in their races. The teams are proud of the funds they have raised to help CPC exceed its goal of $50,000. Everyone enjoyed the day and many plan to join us again next year.

This year, CPC hosted a well-branded water station on the marathon route. CPC’s only marathon runner, Dr. David Shulman, dropped by to visit Laura Williams and her CPC Cheer Team who were bravely handing out water and Gatorade to crowded and very serious marathon runners.

It was fun to see Pennies for Pain t-shirts in the crowds and on the course. It was an amazing experience to cheer for our teammates as they passed. We thank everyone who ran, walked, skipped, cheered and handed out water for giving CPC their Sunday. We thank our sponsors for their support and the organizing committee for their hard work.

Hooray, I did it!! It was great to be a walker in the 2nd Pennies for Pain, Walk to End Pain. I trained for 2 years, with pain as my constant companion. My hard work came to fruition on Sept 26, as I walked beside my husband and completed the 5K. I am so proud of myself! With training, pacing and support from my husband, family and friends, I completed this tremendous achievement. I was surrounded by so many people, all out to help their cause, yet they asked about Pennies for Pain. Just as we were approaching the finish line, I heard "Way to Go, Pennies for Pain" and that spurred me on past the finish line and into the Family and Friends Zone to meet Team CPC and have photos taken. Every day I look at my medal, and know I did this not only for my health but to help CPC to help the 6 Million Canadians who live with pain daily.
See you next year!

On Sunday September 26th, several brave souls from Pfizer Canada participated in the annual Scotiabank Marathon, half Marathon, and 5 KM runs in Toronto., For several months prior to the event, we were communicating messages from the team to engage as many colleagues as possible in this quest, and more importantly, towards the goal of raising money for our select cause, The Canadian Pain Coalition. The CPC were well represented at the event and achieved their target goal of over $50,000. President of the CPC Lynn Cooper was very grateful for all of the support their organization received from Pfizer for this milestone in their calendar. We are extremely proud of the efforts put forth by our Pfizer colleagues, who are on track to raise $5000.00 for the CPC cause, which will ultimately go towards raising the awareness of chronic pain and improving the standards of care.

We would like to acknowledge the many colleagues who worked at the MTM booth during the marathon expo on Friday and Saturday at the Direct Energy center. Literally tens of thousands of people came by the booth over the 2 days and engaged in dialogue with us about the MTM campaign and were very curious about why a big Pharmaceutical company would bother to invest in things not related to medication.

We want to acknowledge and thank all of the runners and their families for coming to Toronto for the big event. The feedback from many participants has been very positive with many expressing a desire to return again next year. We will continue to look for ways to build some momentum for this fund raiser/race again next year, this is a key event for our partners at the CPC and they greatly valued all of the support from Pfizer this year.

Well done and thank you to all who participated!!
