Janice Sumpton RPh., BSc.Phm.
Janice has practiced as a pharmacist in a teaching hospital for over 30 years. Her responsibilities have included adult medicine pharmacist, pharmacy manager, drug information, clinical trials and pediatric pharmacist. Her role includes teaching pharmacists, nurses and physicians on a day to day basis.
Janice has been an active member of the CPC Board since 2010. Responsibilities include writing the “Ask a Pharmacist” column in the CPC Newsletter and facilitating contributions to the Pain Resource Centre. To increase awareness and advocate for pain Janice has given a number of lectures to health professionals. She is a fibromyalgia support group leader providing pain information to her group members. Janice has given presentations, published articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, written book chapters and published on web sites about pain.
Janice has had numerous surgeries and is very aware of post-op pain and the rehabilitation process. Janice has lived with chronic low back pain and neuropathic pain for many years. Over the course of 7 years, 10 different specialists and numerous procedures she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Since that time she has made it her mission to learn as much as possible about chronic pain and fibromyalgia. Her goal is to pass this knowledge on to health professionals and persons with pain.
Janice enjoys quiet time with her family. She is an avid gardener and photographer. She has been a knitter for many years and designs her own handknits.
